Snowfall Is No Match For Husqvarna Snow Blowers

Husqvarna ST224 208cc 2-Stage Snow Blower

Husqvarna ST224 208cc 2-Stage Snow Blower

When it comes to snowfall, it seems that humans have difficulty in removing it, and at times the snow seems to have the upper hand. Now, you may want to consider Husqvarna snow blowers that are available to consumers that come in two types: single stage and two-stage snow blowers. They are no match with snowfall. The differences between single-stage and two-stage snow blowers is mentioned below.

Also note, that the term snow blower is generally defined as a single-stage machine and the term snow thrower usually refers to two-stage machines. However, these terms are used interchangeably between both types of units. The most common term used today for both single and two-stage machines is snow blower.

The major role of a snow blower is to save you time when removing snow off the driveway or sidewalk and save your back. The snow blower will do all of this hard work. All you need to do is to guide the machine in the right direction, which is far easier to do than shoveling.

The best-selling Husqvarna snow blower is the ST224P. You can learn more about this machine by clicking on the link. Learn more about the Husqvarna ST224 two-stage model too.

What to Consider Before Buying

When considering snow blowers you need to know the following:

  • Snow Conditions
  • Clearing Area
  • Type of Snow

All of the above will play an important role in your decision on which type of snow blower to buy. Not all snow blowers single-stage or two-stage machines will be for everyone. Each situation will be unique to you. Make your decision based on your needs and not your neighbors.

It is a good idea to talk with your neighbor if you are considering on buying a similar model that he is currently using. Ask him how it operates in the different types of snowfall, wet, dry and large amounts of snow. Ask him about the clearing area the unit clears does it handle well. If they use a two-stage, why did they select and buy that particular model over a single-stage machine?

Back to Husqvarna Snow Blower topics.

Local Snow Conditions

The local snow conditions will vary as its dependent upon where you live and how much snowfall you receive during each snowstorm on average during the winter season. Base your purchase on that information. One helpful hint: If your area should have average snowfalls that are 8 inches or under, consider buying a single-stage snow blower. On the other hand, if your area has an average snowfall that is above 8 inches, then consider buying a two-stage snow blower.

Clearing Area

The clearing area is another important consideration when making a snow blower purchase. Single-stage snow blowers are great in clearing small areas and these areas must be paved. Using a single-stage snow blower over unpaved areas could cause harm to bystanders or yourself as rocks and other debris will be tossed out of the chute.

If your clearing area has exposed gravel, dirt, or rocks, you should consider purchasing a two-stage snow blower. Everybody’s clearing area will vary upon how long the driveway and sidewalks are. Are they located in a suburban or rural areas? These factors will play a huge role in your decision.

Type of Snow

The type of snow will also play a role in your decision. How? During snowstorms if the snow is generally wet, that means it will be heavier, and a two-stage snow blower will handle these situations more efficiently than single-stage ones. Powder type snow is easy for all types of snow blowers to clear away. It is the wet damp snow that is difficult. Be sure to buy a snow blower with sufficient power to move this type of snow. Also, wet snow cannot be thrown as far when compared with powder type of snow. Knowing these factors will help you in making the best decision for your needs.

Factors To Consider

Below are some factors you need to consider before buying a snow blower:

  • Blasting through hard-packed snow
  • No more slipping and sliding
  • Smart start in cold weather

Go back to Husqvarna Snow Blower indices.

Blasting Through Hard-Packed Snow

The two-stage system has an advantage over single stage machines because it grinds down hard-packed snow before it is fed into the housing and discharged through the impeller and out through the chute.

Go back to Husqvarna Snow Blower indices.

No More Slipping and Sliding

Husqvarna provides snow throwers that come with a cleated track-drive system that delivers propulsion on slippery surfaces, hills, and in deeper snow which is a great advantage over single-stage snow blowers.

Back to Husqvarna Snow Blower indexes.

A Smart Start In Cold Weather

Batteries have a tough time starting any machine in lower temperatures. This is also true for snow blowers and throwers. The Husqvarna starter system on two-stage snow throwers works with just a push of a button.

Stage Types

The different types of snow blower stages are described in detail below.

Single-Stage Snow Blower

Husqvarna Single-Stage 961830003 208cc Snow Blower

Husqvarna Single-Stage 961830003 208cc Snow Blower

A single-stage snow blower is usually small and lightweight. It uses a spinning impeller to move snow into machine and force it out through the discharge chute. This type of machine is very good in small amounts of snowfall anywhere from 3 to 8 inches and smaller areas to clear.

With this type of machine, the oil and gas are mixed together in the gas tank. This type of machine is not suited for gravel areas but paved ones because the impeller is spinning very close to the ground and would pick up any loose rocks and other debris in it’s path. This should be prevented to avoid any injury to yourself or others who may be walking by or observing what you are doing.

The single-stage machine is best used on paved areas, like sidewalks and driveways, when clearing snow.

Return to Husqvarna Snow Blower indexes.

Two-Stage Snow Blower

The two-stage snow blower uses a heavy-duty serrated auger to pull in snow and ice and break up the chunks of ice and move it into a separate high-speed impeller in stage one. Next, the impeller launches the snow out of the discharge chute with great force, the second stage. This type of machine is excellent in large snowfalls eight inches and above and with larger areas to clear. The oil and gas in these machines are in separate compartments. These units can be used over gravel areas because the impeller does not touch the ground. This makes them an excellent choice in all different types of terrain.

Most two-stage machines are self-propelled, have large wheels which helps with different types of terrian. Another great feature is they can throw snow up to 50 feet away in a 180-200 degree radius verses only 20 feet with single-stage machines, with radius’s that are less than 180 degrees.

Review By Comparing Features Of Husqvarna Single-Stage & 2-Stage Snow Blowers

Based on our review of features, Husqvarna has 3 two stage and 3 one stage snow blowers.

The maximum clearing height is 23-inches and are performed by models: ST224, ST224P, and ST230P.

The minimum cleaning height is 8-inches and is performed by model: ST111.

Back to Husqvarna Snow Blower indexes.

Clearing Height

This tells you in inches the highest clearing depth of snow the unit can take in while moving the machine in one pass. The higher intake height means you can use the machine in deeper snowfalls.

The clearing height needed is determined upon the average depth of snow your area receives during a snowstorm. If less than 8 inches, a single-stage machine should do the job very well. On the other hand, if your area receives on average over 8 inches of snow per storm, than a two-stage machine should be considered.

The advantage of a higher clearing height is that you can use the snow blower in bigger depth snowstorms, verses lower height models.

Note: Do not use a snow blower where the snowfall depth is greater than the intake height of the snow blower. It is best to remove the snow in shifts where the snowfall is less than the maximum intake height of the machine. This works for both single and two-stage machines. By doing this, it will help preserve the life of the machine and not burn out the motor due to the heavy load it was not designed to do.

Return to Husqvarna Snow Blower topics.

Clearing Width

This tells you the amount of snow in inches the unit will clear in one pass. The wider the width the less passes are required to clear the snow from a sidewalk or driveway.

What clearing width would make sense? A wider width will save you time as you will be making less passes. Is your driveway wide enough to justify the extra cost for a wider width? The general rule of thumb is; the wider the width and higher intake heights, the more expensive the unit will be. This is true of both single-stage and two-stage machines.

Go back to Husqvarna Snow Blower indices.

Gas Tank

STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer

STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer

The largest tank size is 3.8 quarts and is found in model: ST230P.

The smallest tank size is 0.37 gallons and is found in models: ST111, ST121, ST151

The larger the tank size means more between gas refills as you remove snow.

Note: It is highly recommended that you add a gasoline stabilizer to the gas after every refill at the gas station. This will keep the gas fresher longer and not plug up the carburetor by using stale gasoline. Gasoline gets stale after 30 days without a stabilizer. So, adding a stabilizer to the fuel avoids this problem.

Back to Husqvarna Snow Blower topics.

Electric Start

Are you tired of pulling the chord and not getting results? The electric start will save you frustration and time.

An electric start is found on models: ST224, ST224P, ST230P, ST121, and ST151

Note: If possible, try to purchase a model snow blower that comes with an electric start. This feature will come in handy on extremely cold days after a heavy snowstorm. Most two-stage models come with an electric start. However, this is not true for single-stage models. This feature costs extra. It is well worth the extra cost to have this feature. You will be glad you did.

Return to Husqvarna Snow Blower indexes.

Manual Start

All the models have a manual start. This requires you to pull the cord to start the snow blower. The disadvantage of a manual start is that you can get tired of pulling the cord when the unit does not start on the first, second or third try.

Lights

The following models have lights: ST224, ST224P, and ST230P

The benefit of having lights is that you can remove the snow in the dark. Which makes it easier to see where you are going and stay within the clearing area where there is no light.

Go back to Husqvarna Snow Blower topics.

Warmers

Warmers are a great feature as they will keep your hands and fingers warm when using the snow blower in cold temperatures.

Warmers can be found on the following models: ST224, ST224P and ST230P

Warmers are a great feature as they will keep your hands and fingers warm when removing snow in cold temperatures.

Back to Husqvarna Snow Blower indexes.

Throwing Distance

The throwing distance among snow blowers will vary upon models. Generally, two-stage machines will toss the snow farther than single-stage snow blowers. Be sure to know the clearing area where the snow will be blown so you do not affect any of your neighbors shrubs, house or other sensitive stuff.

The following models throw the snow the farthest: ST224, ST224P and ST230P about 35 feet.

The following models throw the snow the shortest distance: ST111, ST121 and ST151. They all throw snow between 10 to 20 feet.

Note: The throwing distance of all snow blowers is effected by the type of snow to be blown. The wetter the snow, the less distance it can be tossed by the machine. Two-stage machines have a huge advantage over single-stage machines in this area.

Most Critical Factors

When purchasing a snow blower, you need to consider some factors that also have a role in the snow blower you will use for the job.

  • Area that needs to be cleared
  • Local snowfall conditions
  • Storage area

Area That Needs To Be Cleared

The area that needs to be cleared will play a role in this decision. If you should have a large area such as a driveway, a single-stage machine will have difficulty in performing the snow removal over the long haul. Two-stage machines are designed to cover larger areas in removing snow.

Go back to Husqvarna Snow Blower indices.

Local Snowfall Conditions

Knowing your local snowfall conditions will also need to be taken into consideration when determining which type of snow blower you should buy. As stated above, snowfalls that average above 8 inches on a routine basis, a two-stage machine should be considered. On the other hand, if average snowfalls are under 8 inches, a single-stage machine will work just fine.

Back to Husqvarna Snow Blower topics.

Storage Area

Before you go out buying the most expensive snow blower, you will need to determine if you have sufficient space to store it. After the winter season is over, it must be stored somewhere in an area out of the way for the spring, summer and fall.

The question you need to ask yourself; is there sufficient space to store the snow blower? Is there sufficient room to store the machine in the garage with the car inside? Where can it be stored during the summer months if I don’t have a garage?

Single-stage machines require less space than two-stage machines because they are lighter and easier to place in the basement or hang on a wall. On the other hand, two-stage machines are bulky and heavier and cannot be lifted easily to store in the basement. When considering to purchase a two-stage snow blower, be sure you have the space to accommodate it.

Knowing the storage area before you go out to look for one will help you in deciding which one to buy whether a single-stage or two-stage machine.

Conclusion

By considering all of the above features found in the Husqvarna snow blowers and identifying your specific needs, purchasing the right snow blower is easy.

We recommend the Husqvarna snow blowers. Why? Because they are made in the USA. Have good consumer ratings and parts are readily available if you should need them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the most frequently asked questions.

  1. Does the electric require a battery or do you plug it into an AC outlet? Answer: Just plug it into a 110v outlet and press the start button.
  2. Do I have to mix the oil with the gas? Answer: No. It’s a four stroke motor that does not require the need to mix the gas and oil together.
  3. Is this snow blower self-propelled? Answer: Yes. Hand control engages the blower in forward speeds or reverse as selected.
  4. Does this model use regular gas? Answer: Yes. Do not use premium gas as it might cause damage the engine.
  5. Is the chute plastic or metal? Answer: The discharge chute is all metal.
  6. Does it come assembled or in a box? Answer: The major parts are assembled, but you need to attach the chute, handles, and cables.
  7. Does the headlight have a button to turn it on, or is it just on all the time? Doesn’t say in the manual. Answer: It stays on whenever the machine running.
  8. Is this snow blower hard to turn around? Answer: No. The machine is easy to turn around whether going backward or forward.
  9. Does this snow blower clear down to the pavement? Answer: Yes, you can easily adjust the skid shoes from the ground to 1 inch above.
  10. What depth of snow does it remove? Answer: The intake is 20″ high. You could remove 20″ deep snow in one pass. It has a 12″ auger so any depth over about 12″ of normal water content (10%) snow slows it down. The only way to rate a snow blower is by pound of snow per minute.
  11. What is the horse power for this snow blower? Answer: 208 cc converts to about 6.4 HP.
  12. Is this snow blower a pull start? Answer: Yes. But, it also has an electric start feature as well which is nice.

Maintenance

With any snowblower, it is very important that you keep on hand with your machine the following parts:

  • Extra Shear Pins – These pins are designed to break when they encounter a hard object. They hold the augers and impeller fans in place. Keep plenty of these items on hand before winter season begins.
  • Skid Shoes – There are two adjustable metal “shoes” keep the auger from coming into contact with the pavement. While they wear out relatively slowly, years of repeated friction will take its toll. Be sure to have spare ones on hand for replacement when they break.
  • Engine Oil – When temperatures fall, traditional oil has a harder time flowing easily through an engine. This can lead to performance issues and puts your snow blower engine at higher risk for failing.
  • Gas Stabilizer – Adding a gas stabilizer into the fuel container will prevent the gas from getting stale. After 30 days, untreated gas becomes stale and can stall a gas-powered engine. By adding a fuel stabilizer into the gas, it will keep it fresh for up to 1 year or more.

Please refer to your owner’s manual for the proper part replacement number for the pins and skid shoes. The manual will recommend the proper engine oil the snow blower uses and you can keep some on hand. It is best to order these parts prior to the beginning of the snow season.

Note: It is recommended that you add a fuel stabilizer to the gas tank and any fuel reserve to prevent any engine problems.

The Husqvarna ST224P 2-Stage 24-Inch Power Steering Snowthrower has just come to your rescue in removing the falling snow with ease.

The engine is packed with 208cc’s with sufficient power to clear a path 24-inches wide and up to a depth of 23 inches high. It has power steering which makes turning the machine easier. You can throw the snow from the chute up to 35 feet in a radius of 180 degrees.

To aid you in the clearing of the snow you have up to six (6) forward speeds and one (1) reverse. It also has heated hand grips to keep hands warm when clearing snow in sub-zero temperatures. If the snow should fall at night, there are built-in LED headlights to light your way through.

This unit comes with adjustable handles with four positions so you can use it comfortably. The controls are easy to use which provides better control of the unit.

Now, when old man winter should strike with a heavy storm, you are ready and your unit will out match old man winter with ease and comfort.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the most frequently asked questions about this product.

  1. I just purchased this model and they put very little oil in the crank case. How do I know what engine oil they’ve put in so I can put in the same brand? Answer: The brand of engine oil is not as important as the oil weight you put in. I live in NY and the temp usually hovers in the 32° range when it snows, so I went with the Pennzoil 5w30 full synthetic. It is the same oil I use in my truck. All oils will mix with each other and are compatible, so the brand name is completely up to you.
  2. Does it have reverse? Answer: Yes. Plus 6 forward speeds plus one reverse.
  3. Does this blower have a throttle control? Answer: Yes but not at the area by the handles where one would expect it to be. It’s literally a stacked dial assembly with the choke on top of it both located on top of the engine by the exhaust heat shield. I removed the shield because it’s too close and it’s simply unnecessary being that close as hot as it gets. Not being able to adjust the throttle from the top mount control area kinda makes me wonder if the safety engineers got too much power on where stuff went on this thing.
  4. Is the chute made of metal or plastic? Answer: Metal.
  5.  How do you adjust the discharge shoot so that it all the way to the right or left. Answer: It sounds like the shoot was not aligned with the control lever correctly when it was assembled. This can be fixed by removing the nut holding the shoot down and adjusting the lever to the center position and pointing the shoot straight forward. Then tightening the nut back down. Please follow the assembly directions.
  6. Is the auger plastic or metal? Answer: Metal.
  7. Is this snowblower delivered to your home mostly assembled? Answer: Yes. All that needs to be done is the handle assembly needs to be bolted on (4 bolts), the control assembly for the shoot needs to be put in place and bolted on (2 nuts and 2 bolts) and three knob handles get slipped on. That’s it. 30 minutes at the most.
  8. Does this model have a throttle control? Answer: Yes but not at the area by the handles where one would expect it to be. It’s literally a stacked dial assembly with the choke on top of it both located on top of the engine by the exhaust heat shield. I removed the shield because it’s too close and it’s simply unnecessary being that close as hot as it gets. Not being able to adjust the throttle from the top mount control area kinda makes me wonder if the safety engineers got too much power on where stuff went on this thing.
  9. What size of tire chains fit this machine? Answer: Never needed it.
  10. Does this model have reverse? Answer: Yes, 6 forward and 1 reverse.
  11. I just bought it, they’ve put very little engine oil. How do I know what engine oil they’ve put in so as to ensure I put in the same brand?  Answer: The brand of engine oil is not as important as the oil weight you put in. I live in NY and the temp usually hovers in the 32° range when it snows, so I went with the Pennzoil 5w30 full synthetic. It is the same oil I use in my truck. All oils will mix with each other and are compatible, so the brand name is completely up to you.
  12. I just bought this snowblower on September 28, 2015, today Nov. 21, I took it out of the box. Put in fresh oil and gas. Why is the engine surging up and down? Answer: I believe it’s the governor that’s Not adjusted right. Contact a Husqvarna service and sales center.
  13. Does this model have power steering? Answer: Yes, the P in 224P signifies power steering. The regular 224 (with no P at the end) does not.
  14. Will this go through heavy snow and/or ice accumulation? Answer: I will say with a recent sleet/ice storm that it went through it tended to want to raise the front end but that’s a rare occasion you’d hit anything that heavy. It was moving a good 2-3 inches of ice accumulation (pellets and weighed as much if not more than wet snow) at the end of my driveway and still did well. I have not had an issue with the tires and movement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the most frequently asked questions about this product.

  1. Bought this model 921030 with electric start. It came with no extension cord. I can’t find where the cord can be connected. No picture in manual. Help? Answer: I had the same question. The extension cord connection is under a cover on the right hand side of the engine. It is right next to the red button for the electric starter. An extension cord does not come with the unit. This must be purchased separately or use a three-pronged extension cord in your house.
  2. There is no description about the self-propelled function. Is this unit self-propelled? Answer: It is self propelled with 6 forward speeds and 2 reverse speeds. It also has the auto trac feature that drives both wheels automatically and then disengages one wheel when you turn the machine around. if you have a large driveway or get lots of snow get one that has a bigger engine than the 254 cc. the 12.5 ft lbs of torque in the 254 cc engine is adequate for my 125 ft driveway here in Wisconsin but i wish i had a bit more power. for most people it will be fine in all but the harshest snowfalls.
  3. What is the size of the tires on this machine? Answer: Tire size is 16″ x 5″ (41 x 12 cm) per the specifications provided by Ariens.
  4. What size chains do I need for this machine? Answer: Ariens lists the correct chains are their Sno-Throw Chains P/N 72601800 which fit Models 921024, 921030, 921037 and 921032.
  5. Does it come with a pull cord start? Answer: It has a pull cord as well as a 110 volt ac starter that plugs into the wall outlet.
  6. Do you know the shipping cost to Norway? Answer: CPO Outlets does not ship internationally unfortunately.
  7. Does this machine come shipped fully assembled? Answer: Some assembly is required.
  8. Is the light to be on all the time? Answer: Yes, while the machine is running.
  9. What type of fuel does this machine use? Answer: Regular Unleaded 87 octane with 10% ethanol.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are the most frequently asked questions about this product.

What is meant by two-stage? Answer: Single-stage snow throwers use a single high-speed impeller to both move the snow into the machine and force it out the discharge chute. The impeller is usually in the form of two or more curved plastic paddles that move snow towards the center line of the machine where the discharge chute is located. Two-stage snow throwers have one or more low-speed metal augers that break up the snow and move it into a separate high-speed impeller (sometimes called the fan). The impeller ‘blows’ or ‘projects’ the snow out the discharge chute with considerable force. Two-stage machines have separate compartments for the gas and oil. Single-stage machines you mix them both into the gas tank using the proper ratios.

Maintenance

It is highly recommended that you have the following parts available to ensure your snow blower will run when the big snows hit.

  • Shear Pins
  • Skid Shoes
  • Cold Weather Oil

The snow blower will break a shear pin when the auger hits something hard to protect the engine from damage. Be sure to have plenty of shear pins on hand. They are not expensive and it will save you time as well.

As you use your snow blower, the skid shoes will wear down. By having some replacement skid shoes on hand you can continue using your machine during the harsh winters. You will not have to place an order for them as they are already on hand just for this purpose.

Using the proper oil is important especially in cold temperatures. Have some spare oil on hand.

Consult your owner’s manual for the part numbers for the skid shoes, and shear pins. The manual will also recommend the proper oil to use in your snow blower.

By having these items on hand, will prevent you from not using the snow blower when a snowstorm hits your area. It’s best to buy these items before you need to use the snow blower.

Note: It is highly recommended that you add a fuel stabilizer into the gas tank and reserve fuel to prevent any engine problems.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the most frequently asked questions concerning this product.

  1. Does this model have power steering? Answer: No. Only models that end in P do.
  2. Is the 5-year warranty still in effect for refurbished machines? Answer: No. Warranties on Husqvarna equipment is non-transferable. The five year warranty is only in effect for brand new, original owner.
  3. Is it self-propelled? Answer: Yes.
  4. What is the voltage required for an electric start? Answer: A standard  outlet is sufficient.
  5. Does it require any pushing at all, or does the self-propel do 100% of the work? Answer:
The only pushing or pulling required is to turn the machine. The self propel does all the forward and reverse. If you want one with power steering all the models larger than this come with power steering as well.
  6. How far can this machine blow snow? Answer: I live in western NY, and last year we had our fair share of snow of all kinds. Wet and heavy, light powder, you name it we had it for months on end. The was my first winter with this blower and it worked great. Had no problems throwing all kinds of snow more than far enough. Had to watch that I didn’t throw it into my neighbors driveway that is over 50 feet away from mine. Even ice chunks and the wet snow was cleared easily.
  7. How long will a full tank of gas last in a large snowfall? Answer: My driveway and my neighbors driveway are around 1500 square feet each and I can do both around 3 times each on one tank.
  8. How does this work on a steep driveway? Answer: It will do just fine, just keep the throttle turned down when going downhill so the engine does not turn the wheels too fast, when going uphill, you should not have any problem because there is enough weight on the machine from the engine and parts to give the wheels (which have great tread) the ability to maintain contact and not spin. It will do just fine, just keep the throttle turned down when going downhill so the engine does not turn the wheels too fast, when going uphill, you should not have any problem because there is enough weight on the machine from the engine and parts to give the wheels (which have great tread) the ability to maintain contact and not spin. you should not have any problems with steep driveways, as long as you are not turning the speed up as high as it goes, keep it low and slow on the throttle down, and then see what works going back up.
  9. How well do the heated grips work in extreme cold? Answer: Good enough to make a difference when it is cold, was a night and day difference from nothing. Worked well a 10 or 20 degrees.
  10. How hard is it to assemble? Answer: There is some assembly required. Just putting the handles up and connecting the snow shoot. Took me about 20 min and I’d say I’m an average handyman.
  11. Do you have to mix oil and gas? Answer: No, there are separate compartments for each.
  12. Does the unit come with chains? Answer: No, you must purchase them separately.
  13. How are the headlights powered? Answer: From the engine. They power on only when the engine is running. There is no battery with this unit.

Models of Blowers

Gas Powered Leaf Blower

Gas Powered Leaf Blower

The models of leaf blowers come in four basic types:

  • Battery
  • Electric
  • Gas
  • Backpack

Back to Best Selling Leaf Blowers topics.
Back To Top of Page

Battery Powered Leaf Blowers

The leaf blowers that are battery powered will provide you with instant start without the pulling of a cord or having an electric cord in your way while blowing debris.

The tool will provide power up to the limit of the time the battery will provide. The blowing times will vary from each manufacture between 10 to 45 minutes, depending upon the battery being used in the tool. You may consider buying a backup battery to extend the work time so that you can complete the job all in one day.

Another negative about battery models is that the battery requires charging after every use. In some cases, recharging the battery will take up to four hours or more, again depending upon the battery.

Back To Top of Page

Electric Powered Leaf Blowers

Electric Powered Leaf Blower

Electric Powered Leaf Blower

The electric leaf blowers will vary from the amount of amps the motor will produce. The speeds can be varied depending upon the blowing situation. The tool will start immediately and requires no gasoline or battery to power it.

The biggest drawback to electric leaf blowers is that it must be connected to a power source with the use of an extension cord. Be sure to purchase the extension cord based on the recommendation in the owner’s manual. You cannot use an extension cord that is greater than 100 feet or you will begin to experience a loss of power for each foot longer than 100 feet.

Be sure that the extension cord being used will allow you to reach the furthest point from the electrical source of the area that needs to be blown. If not, you might want to consider using a gas-powered or battery powered leaf blower.

Back To Top of Page

Gas Powered Leaf Blowers

Gas powered leaf blowers are the most popular models being used today. They can provide sufficient power for you to complete the job all in one day, without having to refill the gas tank on most models.

The biggest deficiencies of gas powered leaf blowers are:

  • Need of Gasoline
  • Oil
  • Maintenance
  • Proper removal of old gas
  • Storage of extra gasoline
  • More expensive than battery or electrical powered models

It’s always best with gas models to add a gasoline stabilizer to the fuel which will extend the freshness of the gas. Add the stabilizer to the fuel when you get a fresh batch of gas. By adding a fuel stabilizer you extend the life of the gas for up to one year. The same is true for gasoline being stored for later use. If the storage time of gasoline is longer than thirty (30) days, it is considered old and needs to be replaced with fresh fuel if a fuel stabilizer is not added.

If you know that your gasoline will be sitting around for a period longer than thirty days, it’s recommended a stabilizer to be added into mixture. Otherwise, you will have to dispose of the old gas based on your local ordinances. Keeping the old fuel longer than thirty days will cause engine problems or difficulty in starting them.

Note: Most of these gas models require octane of 87 and ethanol of no more than 15% and some models 10%. It’s best if you can get gas that contains no ethanol.

Backpack Blower

Back Pack Leaf Blower 2

Back Pack Leaf Blower

A backpack blower actually fits to your back like a backpack you used when going to school. These models generally have more power to blow debris. It makes the leave blowing job much easier especially for large areas. This type of leaf blower is totally powered by gasoline and is the most expensive of all the models.

If you should have a small to medium size areas to blow, the battery, electric or gas powered hand-held models should do fine for these types of jobs.

There you have it, now, a decision must be made by you to decide on which type of leaf blower to use and which is best for your yard.
